Castle Brook is a care home that provides long-term residential, and respite, care for up to 88 older people and people living with dementia.
Each household has an open plan living area with a lounge, dining area and domestic-style kitchen. Residents and family members can make their own snacks and drinks, or full meal. They can also get involved in the washing up and other housekeeping activities if they want to.
We furnish all bedrooms, which have floor to ceiling windows, TV and telephone sockets and ensuite wetrooms. There is also a spa bathroom on every household. And for couples or relatives who want to stay together, there are ground-floor double apartments, with their own lounge, kitchenette, ensuite wetroom and personal patio garden.
Castle Brook has a range of community facilities including a café, cinema, hair salon, shop, and traditional launderette. Everyone has access to the outdoors so we encourage residents to bring clothing that's suitable for spending time outside. At the front of the home is the café patio, while the back garden features raised beds for growing flowers and vegetables, our side-by-side bike and bike track, and outdoor gym equipment. Residents can also get out upstairs on the balconies or bowling green.
There are regular activities including exercise classes, gardening, table tennis, and bowling (on the roof top bowling green). As part of our activity provision, WCS Care employs dedicated Community Musicians who deliver one-to-one or group music-based activities. There's also a weekly choir and church service at the home. And our Memory Maker minibus provides regular, local trips for residents, including those who need to use a wheelchair. We invite relatives to join our trips so families can make new memories together.
The home also uses night-time acoustic monitoring to improve the health and wellbeing of the people living with us.
WCS Care offers the Relatives’ Gateway service for relatives with the necessary consent in place. This is an innovation that picks up most care and activities in real time, creating text from icons selected by staff. Loved ones and staff can also use the gateway to send pictures and messages, keeping everyone up-to-date anywhere in the world with an internet connection. You can sign into the gateway using the link at the top of the website.
Kate has been part of the team at Castle Brook since the home opened in 2016. She worked in various roles before becoming General Manager.
Kate’s mission is to ensure there are no barriers to what residents can do, just because they are living in a ‘care home’. She also wants to support carers to make Castle Brook the very best it can be.
Michelle joined the Castle Brook team not long after the home opened and developed in various leadership roles, from Team Leader and Duty Manager to Care Co-ordinator and now Deputy Home Manager.
Michelle has established relationships with residents and staff over the years and is passionate about Castle Brook and the opportunities that the home offers to residents. Her mission is to help staff bring Castle Brook's facilities to life, ensuring everyone can live a life that feels familiar with choice and independence.
Margaret joined the Concierge team at Castle Brook in 2023. She's one of the first people you're likely to speak to on the phone, or meet at the front desk when you arrive at the home.
Margaret has spent her life caring - even at school people knew they could turn to her if they needed support. This translated into her personal life, providing care to her parents and her daughter when she became ill, and her career working as a palliative care nurse for 35 years on and off.
Margaret understands, and is passionate about, the importance of giving residents the gift of time and plans on being part of the team at Castle Brook until she retires.
Here are just a few of the faces that make up our team at Castle Brook.
No matter what their role is, every member of our team is a carer at heart and contributes to the day-to-day experience of our residents. We know we’re only as good as our last act of care, so we recruit team members who embody our values whilst also simply being themselves, bringing all of their different personalities, interests and passions to work to create a diverse team of carers.
