Drovers House is a care home divided into six households providing a home to 75 older people and people living with dementia.
Each household has its own communal open-plan lounge, dining area and kitchen. We've designed the households in one of three lifestyles based on town, country and classical living. Hobbies, interests and local information are represented in the hallway decorations. This is because we recognise that the space in-between places creates more opportunities for conversation and reminiscence..
Whilst a lot of daily life takes place on the households, Drovers House also has a café and day lounge on the ground floor. And there's a shop where residents can stock up on supplies for their household's kitchen. The home also has a hair salon and spa bathroom for a feel-good bathing experience.
Outside, the garden has a specially designed cycle path for our side-by-side bike for two and outdoor gym equipment. There's also a pitch and putt lawn, a tool shed, raised beds and varied planting which residents look after.
As part of our activity provision, WCS Care employs dedicated Community Musicians who deliver one-to-one or group music-based activities. And our Memory Maker minibus provides regular, local trips for residents, including those who need to use a wheelchair. We invite relatives to join our trips so families can make new memories together.
The home also uses circadian rhythm lighting on one household and in the reception area. And at night we use night-time acoustic monitoring. Both of these innovations improve the health and wellbeing of the people living with us.
Volunteers from The Gift of Years Rugby visit the home regularly to provide services of worship, befriending, singing groups and one-to-one activities.
WCS Care offers the Relatives’ Gateway service for relatives with the necessary consent in place. This is an innovation that picks up most care and activities in real time, creating text from icons selected by staff. Loved ones and staff can also use the gateway to send pictures and messages, keeping everyone up-to-date anywhere in the world with an internet connection. You can sign into the gateway using the link at the top of the website.
Steph has built a career at WCS Care. She started as a carer in 2003, and progressed to become General Manager of Drovers House.
Steph loves how she can make a difference to residents’ lives, and enjoys sharing her knowledge with her team to help them deliver high-quality care.
Joe joined WCS Care in 2018 leading our successful discharge to assess rehabilitation service at Castle Brook in Kenilworth which was run in partnership with NHS South Warwickshire Foundation Trust.
Having always gravitated towards jobs that involved interaction with people, Joe was inspired to make a change and work in care when a family member received rehabilitation support. Joe loves nothing more than a busy day where he gets to use his logical, problem-solving skills to help his team and residents; he's happiest when the people he cares for are happy.
Having walked past Drovers House and heard laughter and music, Loraine thought the home looked like a lovely place to work and applied straight away for the role of Concierge, which she took up in April 2021.
Loraine has spent her whole career in roles that connect her with people, from receptionist and front-of-house positions to domiciliary care. She's happiest when she's spending time with others, listening to their stories.
Here are just a few of the faces that make up our team at Drovers House.
No matter what their role is, every member of our team is a carer at heart and contributes to the day-to-day experience of our residents. We know we’re only as good as our last act of care, so we recruit team members who embody our values whilst also simply being themselves, bringing all of their different personalities, interests and passions to work to create a diverse team of carers.
