Newlands is a care home that provides long-term, and respite, care for people living with physical disabilities and lifelong conditions.
The home has three small households, all on the ground floor. We have 26 rooms, of which 13 have ensuite facilities. Permanent residents can decorate their bedroom in their preferred style and colours to make their spaces their own.
The households each have a lounge and dining area, with a kitchenette where residents can make their own snacks and drinks, with support from staff if needed.
At the heart of the home is Newlands' Hub. This community venue includes a café and sensory area, as well as a large screen for people to come together to watch films and sporting fixtures. There's also a wellbeing area for physical exercise and hot-tub spa bath in the conservatory.
Residents take part in the daily living routines of the house, such as shopping, cooking, gardening and a variety of leisure activities. We have lots of community connections and residents attend the local social club as well as getting out and about to nearby shops, restaurants and pubs. The home has its own minibus to help residents get out and about.
WCS Care offers the Relatives’ Gateway service for relatives with the necessary consent in place. This is an innovation that picks up most care and activities in real time, creating text from icons selected by staff. Loved ones and staff can also use the gateway to send pictures and messages, keeping everyone up-to-date anywhere in the world with an internet connection. You can sign into the gateway using the link at the top of the website.
Bonnie joined WCS Care in 2000 and has always worked at Newlands. Over the years Bonnie has enjoyed building strong relationships with relatives and colleagues in the home.
Here are just a few of the faces that make up our team at Newlands.
No matter what their role is, every member of our team is a carer at heart and contributes to the day-to-day experience of our residents. We know we’re only as good as our last act of care, so we recruit team members who embody our values whilst also simply being themselves, bringing all of their different personalities, interests and passions to work to create a diverse team of carers.
