Woodside Care Village is a care home with family-sized households for adults based on the successful Dutch De Hogeweyk model. We support people with mobility needs, dementia and hearing loss. Residents are encouraged to contribute to the community of the village and their household as little or as much as they want. Our aim is to create a life that feels familiar.
We designed the 12 households in one of three lifestyles based on town, country and classical living. Up to seven people, who share similar care needs, interests and backgrounds, live together in each house.
We dedicate two households at the village to our deaf service, Deafinitely Independent. And we train the staff who support our deaf residents in British Sign Language, as well as care and active support.
The village has its own café, hair salon, cinema, shop, launderette and spa bathroom for a complete bathing experience. Outside, the plaza has seating areas, a bike track for our side-by-side bike, outdoor gym equipment and water features. And there's a quiet area, sensory planting and raised beds. One of the Deafinitely Independent residents works alongside our gardener to maintain the flowerbeds and planting.
As part of our activity provision, WCS Care employs Community Musicians who deliver one-to-one or group music-based activities. And our dedicated Memory Maker minibus provides regular, local trips for residents, including those who need to use a wheelchair. Relatives are welcome to join these trips so families can make new memories together.
The home also uses circadian rhythm lighting and night-time acoustic monitoring. Both of these innovations help to improve the health and wellbeing of the people living with us.
WCS Care offers the Relatives’ Gateway service for relatives with the necessary consent in place. This is an innovation that picks up most care and activities in real time, with text created from icons selected by staff. Loved ones and staff can also use the gateway to send pictures and messages. As a result everyone can stay up-to-date anywhere in the world with an internet connection. You can sign into the gateway using the link at the top of the website.
Lorraine has worked at Woodside Care Village since before it opened in 2019 and at WCS since 2005.
Lorraine says she’s a carer at heart and she recognises that it takes a special person to work at Woodside Care Village. Her mission is to grow and nurture carers, and treat them with kindness to create a special community where people want to come and live, in a care home that offers hope, and our staff want to stay.
Maxine has been part of the management team at Woodside Care Village since it opened in 2019 and at WCS Care since 2014, working in the previous Woodside care home and at Castle Brook in Kenilworth.
Maxine's always enjoyed learning and gaining new knowledge. She brings this passion to work where she wants to create the same enthusiasm for learning, so people can reach their fullest potential. As a member of the team who has worked both days and nights, Maxine is dedicated to ensuring all team members have the same opportunities to develop in their careers.
Mathew enjoys bringing about positive change for the deaf residents he supports, using his communication skills to facilitate understanding and create an environment where everyone can thrive and connect.
Meg is one of our concierges, so you're likely to speak to her on the phone or meet her when you visit the home.
Having benefited from support herself as she grew up, and with family encouragement, Meg originally trained to work with children. However, she loved spending time with her grandparents, listening to their stories, and knowing that her skills, and personal experience, would transfer to adult care, she made the move to WCS in 2019.
Joining originally as a carer, Meg brings these skills to her current role of Concierge, supporting residents and visitors.
Here are just a few of the faces that make up our team at Woodside Care Village.
No matter what their role is, every member of our team is a carer at heart and contributes to the day-to-day experience of our residents. We know we’re only as good as our last act of care, so we recruit team members who embody our values whilst also simply being themselves, bringing all of their different personalities, interests and passions to work to create a diverse team of carers.
